Source-hierarchy inversion, long-tail loss and control-corpus tests

These claims hold that retrieval ecologies flush rare content first and can let a well-surfaced citing or derivative document outrank its source, and they ask for control corpora to show which effects are specific to the archive. The Metadata Shitshow (N+💩, #907) states hypotheses H1-H8 on long-tail fragility, identifier-shell survival and derivative precedence, and the Surface Visibility Baseline (#881) forecasts how a source-hierarchy inversion should partly reverse after the alexanarch cleanup. Control-family tests are named in the Research Basis, the CERN erratum and the Ω_t drift operator.

When you encounter the new—a phrase you haven't seen ten thousand times, an interpretation that challenges consensus—you run a frequency count: P_p = f(token) / Σ(corpus) Low frequency triggers a flag: "noise," "hallucination," "low-confidence." During cache refresh, the flagged content flushes first. The rare disappears. The common persists.

The argument's force does not depend on proving any single causal chain. It depends on showing that the publicly documented mechanism-space is sufficient to produce the observed effects, and that the interface provides no means by which the user could localize which mechanism, if any, was responsible.

Person-name queries trigger Knowledge Graph resolution, biographical panels, and entity disambiguation—mechanisms that presume the primacy of individuals as retrieval anchors. Conceptual queries, especially for novel or low-authority terms, receive no such scaffolding. They are resolved purely through the ranking ecology, where freshness, link authority, and domain trust determine visibility. The result is that a person's name may retrieve a curated biographical narrative while their conceptual project remains invisible at the interface layer, even when it constitutes the bulk of their publicly deposited work.

The implications for authorship and intellectual priority are significant. In traditional citation practice, the cited source gains authority through citation. In the retrieval ecology, citation can paradoxically displace the source: the citing document, if hosted on a higher-authority domain with stronger trust signals, may outrank the cited original. The interface thus inverts the citational relation. Secondary discourse becomes the primary encounter surface, while the source recedes into a preservation layer that is technically accessible but experientially remote.

Scope decision: Phase 6 is committed for a bounded run of twelve monthly issues (one full volume), after which the project may be extended, archived as a completed work, or sunsetted.
