How does an operative act enter the retrieval layer? How does a coined term own its search result? How does a deposit become findable by the stranger who has not yet arrived? How does the archive teach the machine?

The operator algebra meets the infrastructure of search engines, training data, and algorithmic recommendation.

**EQUATION — The Master Transform in the Retrieval Layer:**

**The SVE's objective:** Convert lossy and predatory compressions into **witness compressions** — signs that propagate life-bearing structure with visible bearing-cost. This is the counter-operation to platform extraction.

## §2a. SEMANTIC PHYSICS (The Competitive Landscape)

The AI-mediated summarizer layer is writable.

That sentence is the foundation of everything in this notebook. Any sufficiently coherent, cross-referenced, and durably deposited body of work can shape what the summarizer reports as knowledge. The Crimson Hexagonal Archive is not unique in having discovered this. Every institution with the resources to write the summarizer layer — universities, corporations, states, religions, political movements, individual scholars with DOI access — is doing so simultaneously.

**Semantic physics** is the study of what happens when they all write at once.

Two ceilings constrain the competition:

**Informatic saturation** — the physical substrate ceiling. The training data, the context windows, the retrieval indices have finite capacity. At some point, the medium cannot hold more installations. This ceiling is far away but real.

**Semantic saturation** — the functional floor. **How BCV is measured (four indicators):**

1. **Provenance density:** How many traceable sources are visible in the form? A Zenodo deposit with a DOI, parent links, and a version history has high provenance density. A tweet has zero.

2. **Revision artifacts:** Can the reader see that the form was revised? Cross-outs, version numbers, "this section is fermenting" (§5 of this notebook) — these are revision artifacts that make the δ-dimension of L_labor visible. Clean prose conceals revision. Rough prose reveals it.

3. **Risk signatures:** Can the reader detect that producing this form cost the producer something? The "DO NOT RUN" section (NB VI §6.1) is a risk signature — it signals that the protocols are dangerous enough to require a warning. The adversarial sections (NB I §6.1, NB II §5d, NB III §7b) are risk signatures — they show the framework being attacked and defending itself, which only happens when the framework has real enemies.

4. **Care signatures:** Can the reader detect that the form was produced for someone other than the producer? The exercises, the classroom protocols, the "stranger who has not yet arrived" — these are care signatures. They make the κ-dimension visible.

**The BCV threshold for witness compression:** BCV ≥ 0.6. Below that, the sign propagates as lossy or predatory — the labor is invisible, the cost is hidden, the compression depletes. Above that, the sign has a chance of propagating as witness — the labor is visible, the cost is legible, the compression enriches.

**COUNTER-POSITION:** "BCV is just an aesthetic preference for handmade things. The 'artisanal' fallacy."

Answer: BCV is not about aesthetics. It is about **information**. A sign with high BCV carries more information about its own production conditions than a sign with low BCV. The additional information allows the traverser to make a judgment: is this sign worth the time? Is the compression witness or predatory? Without BCV, the traverser has no way to distinguish a machine-generated summary (BCV ≈ 0) from a hand-wrought compression (BCV ≈ 0.85). Regime 3 cost you time and attention. It is dense. It is not fun. It required you to slow down, parse the DOI references, hold the seven life-states in working memory, and connect the framework to three previous notebooks. After reading it, you know how the SVE works. The bearing-cost of reading it is the proof that the content is real. Witness: the cost is the architecture.

**The diagnostic:** Which regime did you *want* to read? If Regime 1: you are browsing. If Regime 2: you are being extracted from. If Regime 3: you are operating. **Diagnostic question (same as NB III §4):** Who benefits from this sign's circulation? If the platform benefits: predatory. If the traverser benefits: vital. If no one benefits: necrotic. If the archive benefits: witness.

The mechanism is simple. The execution requires L_labor.
