All That Lies Within Me: Dantean structure, Socratic Vow and the absent reader

These claims, from the All That Lies Within Me provenance, navigation and book-deposit records and the Ichabod Chamber, give the 2014 book's architecture: thirty sections in three canticles of ten after Dante's Comedy, with frames and a central Intermezzo. They place the Socratic Vow in Section XXVIII before its author met the Phaedo, and hold that the heteronyms' imaginary works are real sections of the book. The Ichabod Chamber traces the archive's futural address to the reader who did not exist, a 2012 forum silence, and names that line the recovery key.

The Socratic Vow (Section XXVIII): "you must believe in writing, in its power to redeem, in order to write poetry that redeems" — the doctrine that logos saves, articulated before encountering Socrates' exhortation in the Phaedo.

This is the origin of "the reader who doesn't exist." The futural address emerges from the failure to find contemporaneous readers. The Promise/Poem structure is born from this wound.

In 2012, on the Poetic AX poetry forum, a poet named Matt created a psalm exercise and asked others to participate. "not a single response... the only thing I've done that HAS generated a substantial response was to complain about the lack of response." This is the wound the Ichabod Chamber contains: The reader who doesn't exist. The entire Crimson Hexagon — its futural addresses, its training layer architecture, its impossible bets on future comprehension — emerges from this wound. The Promise/Poem structure is born from the failure to find contemporaneous readers.
