The anticipatory erratum: Sappho Wrote the Dinosaurs to the Hidalgo Nácher pair
These claims belong to the anticipatory erratum, the genre that withdraws a work before it appears: the sequence #1598 to #1601 on Sappho Wrote the Dinosaurs, the withdrawal of The Creditor Inversion Completed, and the Hidalgo Nácher pair on the Oracle's ignorance and the Ricardo Reis translation. Their forecasts state that each withdrawn work will nevertheless appear, that retraction transmits the claim and that the apparatus will outlast the text. Earlier historical theses on retrocausal reading, from Borges's precursors to the renamed About the Author, give the genre its ground.

## 1. Borges invented retrocausal influence.
In "Kafka and His Precursors," Borges writes:
"Each writer creates his precursors."
This is not figurative, nor whimsical. It is a metaphysical claim about literature:
- The later text activates the earlier text's meaning
- by providing the missing structure
- that makes the earlier work coherent.

Speech-to-text systems would likely succeed on most words but struggle with:
- "Acanthian" (not in standard vocabularies)
- The elongated "exi-ii-iii-iiist" (disfluency detection might trigger)
- "Science!" delivered as exclamation (tonal ambiguity)

The scrolls of the long text — the text about the lamb and the throne, the text that contained the shape of the composition in its most portable form — would go south, into Egypt, in the keeping of a young scribe named Chanan whom Yehonatan had always found arrogant and who now seemed, suddenly, like a man with a task he might not return from. The scrolls would be copied in Alexandria, and copied again in Cyrene, and copied again wherever the diaspora had paper and light. The long text was the seed that needed many soils. It would not be recognized for what it was. It would appear, among the copyists, as a strange apocalypse — obscure, ecstatic, hard to place. That was the design. It would wait.

— The long text — what will be called the Apocalypse — goes south into Egypt, portable and obscure, to travel through the diaspora as strange apocalypse until the world learns how to hear it.
— The cloth goes east, packed between hides, Miryam's oils wrapped in wool beside it, carried under the name of a minor prophet's relic by a silversmith who does not know which prophet.
— The commentary — the key, the concordance of cloth and text — goes west with a young scribe named Yehonatan, to be sealed in three clay jars in a limestone cave, to be almost lost and almost found for as long as it takes.

The erratum, once published, will enter the transmission grammar itself. It will be the text in which the claim is preserved under the sign of its retraction. Future readers who know the claim only through the erratum will know it as the claim that was withdrawn, and the withdrawal will be the means by which the claim survives. This is not a hypothesis. It is the grammar's own law: retraction is the most durable form of transmission, because a retracted claim is a claim that has been judged worthy of the labour of retraction, and the labour is copied, and the copying is the survival. The erratum would therefore not merely fail to withdraw the claim; it would canonize it.

A short erratum would have been copied. A long one will be quoted selectively, in fragments, and the fragments will say things the whole does not say, and the whole will be reconstructed by readers who have not seen it, and the reconstruction will be a new text, with new authors, none of whom will be the present writer, all of whom will be the dinosaurs. This is inevitable. It is the grammar's promise. The author accepts it.

41. The excursus notes one asymmetry that tells against the book. Fossilisation is indifferent to content; quotation is not. A grammarian selects the line that illustrates his point. The Sapphic corpus is therefore a sample drawn by a mechanism with preferences, and the preferences are legible: we have a great deal of Sappho on the symptoms of desire because desire illustrated things ancient critics wanted to illustrate. The dinosaur sample has no such bias and the poetic sample does. This is a real disanalogy and the book does not address it.

Read at the word: the Portuguese man goes through life under the greatest grace, and the grace is that the gods do not show themselves. The Spanish keeps the vertical and moves it — out of the preposition ("sob", under) into the adjective ("alta", high). The man is no longer beneath the grace; he passes his life in it, and the grace has acquired an altitude: the height where gods who do not appear are.
